All in the Package

Pineapple ice cream served in the pineapple. Delicious.

The other day while running some errands in downtown Mexico City, I felt like buying a Coke. Not just any Coke though, a Coke in a glass bottle. Although common in Mexico City, the stores nearby to where I was only had plastic bottles. Despite being in a rush, I walked 3 blocks just because I knew a corner store that sold Coke in glass bottles.

Why?

For starters, they taste better. Is it in my head? maybe. But upon taking a glance at the ingredients, I notice a glass bottle of Coke has sugar in it while plastic bottles of Coke have High Fructose Corn Syrup.

So that is one reason, but more importantly, I just love the feel of the glass bottles. I’m not even a “Coke” or “soda” kind of guy. I almost never drink soda of any kind so it amazes me that I went out of my way to find a glass bottle of the stuff.

I simply love the packaging. The retro feel. I almost never drink soda when I’m home but when I’m in Mexico, I find myself looking for glass bottles of Coke. If a restaurant in Mexico carries the plastic bottles or cans, I won’t order it.

The packaging is better.

Then I think of Apple. Sure, the products are pretty good as well as the marketing, but the packaging is also superior. Think about how you feel when your touching or opening that new Macbook pro, Ipad, or Iphone. The packaging is beautiful. It makes you feel like you’ve just purchased the coolest thing in the world.

Most PC products don’t carry this kind of packaging. Actually, most products don’t. The ones that do though, make you feel like your holding the highest quality product you could possibly be holding. Something great.

I also bought pineapple ice cream while in Ixtapa, Mexico just because it was being served in an actual pineapple. It was awesome.

What’s your thoughts on packaging?

If you have a business, have you put some thought into the presentation?

One day I may be blinded

One day I may be deaf

I may lose control of my body

I may be nearing death.

But one thing is for certain

If I explored my body and mind

Then when I look death in the eyes

I know he will be kind.
